Christmas dinner is one of the biggest events of the year for many families, yet the planning of the meal can be fraught with difficulties. Cooking for sprout-hating children, the solo vegan, or the cousin who prefers ham to turkey; getting the wines right is not straightforward either!  Wine is an important part of bringing everyone together and it is a fundamental part of the Italian festive season. Italians typically bring out special wines to celebrate Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

What wines? There are tons of guidelines to what should be drunk with what foods to enhance their flavors and we often make recommendations for our wines … but at the end of it all, drink what you enjoy! Come out today and find something that you enjoy!

The Wines:

  • Nobile Delle Rocche Trebbiano D’Abruzzo DOC: Trebbiano is a group of white wine grapes that has been thrown together based on tradition and similarities. The vast majority of the grapes planted under the Trebbiano banner at the same grape as Ugni Blanc, the grape of Armagnac and Cognac. It is known for its high acidity and subtle flavors. This wine is 100% Trebbiano is a fresh, soft, and balanced wine with a distinctive fruity aroma. Pair this with appetizers, light poultry dishes, and fish dishes.
  • Nova Terra Pinot Noir: A nice Italian Pinot Noir that is versatile and a great value! From the Veneto region, this 100% Pinot Noir has a pronounced nose of red berries, currant, blackberry, and raspberry with great drinkability. Grab several bottles of this incredibly food-friendly wine for all of your holiday parties, dinners, and drinks! It pairs with roast turkey, fish fillets, ham, and has the acid to cut through the fat of heartier dishes. A Shop favorite anytime of the year that shines during the holidays.
  •  Arbos Chianti Classico DOCG: What could be better than settling in a comfy chair with a nice glass of Chianti by a warm fire? By getting one at a great price! Check this 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Arbos out … fruity nose with cherry and wild red berries brushed by hints of violets that burst onto the tongue with that traditional dry and full-bodied nature of Chianti Classico. If you have roast beef for Christmas, this is your wine. It is also great with aged cheeses and grilled meats.
  • Conte di Campiano Primitivo di Manduria DOC Riserva: From the heart of Puglia comes this special limited edition bottling for Christmas of 100% Primitivo! If you are a fan of Primitivo or Zinfandel, come out and grab a bottle (or a six-pack … with special pricing) of this wild and complex wine. Intense and slightly jammy on the nose … ripe plum, cherry jam, and tobacco with just a touch of baking spice … followed by a full-bodied wine with soft tannins. Enjoy the notes of cocoa, coffee, vanilla, and dark fruit while eating game, roasts, or hearty stews.italian
